Having been awarded the Department of Physiology Scholarship for my Honours year I worked under the guidance of Assoc Prof. David Saint and Dr Bonny Honen, studying the effects of extracellular ATP on calcium handling in isolated cardiacmyocytes. The technique involved isolating cardiomyocyes from hearts and recording changes in calcium waves using confocal microscopy. This data was later presented at the 2002-03 ISHR conference winning a research prize.
